Deep in London's beating heart Lies a wall A locked door it be If you know the call. For if the wall steps aside Be not afraid of what you see Because the wizard world had opened up As has the Gryphons Dream (that's right) You'll find all shapes and sizes If you go into the dream But a lady there Makes the ocean's roar seem tame You better know what you're after If you catch her eye Cause this hot mama Is just a cat in disguise Leanin on the bar Clad in green With the scent of smoke And dark, sweet dreams Step aside fool She's too much woman for you She's too much witch for anyone Who's too afraid to choose For her path is lined with rosemary, bittersweet and blood She'll teach you a thing or two About a witch's forked tongue You'll find all shapes and sizes. If you go into the dream But a lady there Makes the ocean's roar seem tame You better know what you're after If you catch her eye Cause this hot mama Is just a cat in disguise With a voice as smooth as a single malt She purrs, 'you don't belong here' And you take the floor She burns you down brings your spirit to the brink Then moves your feet into a swing That only the deepest kiss defeats Well, aren't you sweet.... The morning finds you Alone and intact You look for days but never find your way back Because the lady's had her fun But she has dragons yet to slay But you know that you'll never Forget her face Better hold on tight Cause she's just a cat in disguise

Hot McGonagall
It started as a joke that Alexander James Adams made about SJ Tucker. The outfit she was wearing at a show made him think of a Hot McGonagall, like it was something she would have worn in her 20s going out to the jazz clubs. s00j told this story at the beginning of her show at FKO and Lizzie started writing furiously. By the end of the set, when it was time for Lizzie to join in and sing on Cheshire Kitten, because ya’know, that’s what they do, the lyric was done.

Lizzie - Vocal and bass • Eric - Guitar • The Andreas Sisters - Backing Vocals
(this joke is entirely Eric’s fault)
Recorded, produced and mastered by Donna Miller at the Record Mill in Ames.

Disenchanted
Bill Roper was running a recording workshop at Musecon in 2013. We were asked to come in and record a song with him, with the aid of Amy McNally. It was real fast, mostly first takes, everything overdubbed, nothing recorded with any effects. Bill did a quick mix and played it back. You can hear some of the room noise, the guitar I was using wasn’t the best under the circumstances. And this version is great. I think it’s one of Lizzie’s best recorded vocals. And Amy brought it! Someday we will get to play a whole show with her.

Lizzie - Vocal • Amy McNally - Fiddle • Eric - Guitar
Recorded and mixed by Bill Roper. Mastered by Donna Miller at the Record Mill in Ames.

Critters V5
Every time Lizzie meets new Critters, they get their own version of the song. This time it is Orpheus and Sparkles. Next time it’s Fauna and … who knows …

Lizzie - Vocals and critter voices • Susan Weiner - Fiddle • Eric - Cuatro
Original backing tracks recorded by Isaac Norman. Final production, mixing and mastering by Donna Miller at the Record Mill in Ames.

Out Of The Light V3
Susan came up with a wonderful counter-melody vocal for this song just before she moved away. We hadn’t had a chance to record it, or play it live for that matter. When she came into town to record her parts for Crowes & Consequences, she recorded this as well. Her plaintive take on the other person in the song is lovely and haunting. It’s amazing how many lives this song has had.

Lizzie - Vocal • Susan Weiner - Second Vocal & Viola da Gamba • Eric - Cuatro
Original backing tracks recorded by Isaac Norman. Final production, mixing and mastering by Donna Miller at the Record Mill in Ames.
